Water Quality Reports
The State of Texas, specifically the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), requires municipalities that oversee water systems to distribute annual reports on drinking water quality to their customers. According to TCEQ:
The Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is a document that provides consumers information about the quality of drinking water in an easy to read format. The CCR summarizes information that your water system already collects to comply with Federal and State regulations. It includes information about the source(s) of water used (i.e., rivers, lakes, reservoirs, or aquifers), chemical contaminants, bacteriological contaminants, compliance with drinking water rules, educational health information, water system contact information and public participation opportunities. TCEQ requirements for the CCR can be found in 30 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 290 Subchapter H: Consumer Confidence Reports.
It’s important information, just not sexy. So in 2006, after the City of Bryan water services department requested more feedback on their CCR, I helped them integrate the report into a humorous calendar. The city not only received a positive public response, TCEQ even recognized the report by creating a new Texas Environmental Excellence Award category titled Innovative Operations/Management.
